Insulting Islam

There are much hoo haas right now about non-Muslims insulting Muslims and Islam in Malaysia. A young non-Muslims couple is now under investigation. The Vatican envoy has been read the riot act by the Foreign Minister.

Latest, a guy had apparently been abducted, bundled into an Alphard, beaten up, stripped half naked, pictured with the word "Hina Islam" and the photo splashed on the internet before being dumped by the side of the road for insulting Islam.

I actually don't know who is/are more insulting to Islam. The guy who was abducted or the people who gave him that treatment.

Anyway, the Quran says:

"You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination."(3:186)

Then, a Sahih Muslim hadith says:

"Anas reported: A Bedouin urinated in the mosque. Some of the persons stood up (to reprimand him or to check him from doing so), but the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: Leave him alone; don't interrupt him. He (the narrator) said: And when he had finished, he called for a bucket of water and poured it over." (Muslim hadith 557, Book of purification).

Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa says:

"None of this is to condone violence of any sort. Indeed, the example of the Prophet and his Companions – the greatest sources of Muslim normativity – bear witness to their enduring the worst insults from the non-believers of his time. Not only was his message routinely rejected, but he was often chased out of town, cursed at, and physically assaulted on numerous occasions. But his example was always to endure all personal insults and attacks without retaliation of any sort. There is no doubt that, since the Prophet is our greatest example in this life, this should also be the reaction of all Muslims. As the Qur’an instrucus, “Be patient, as were the great prophets.”

(source is here )

So, make your own conclusion.

ps a friend of mine had told me of another verse from the Quran:

Ch 3 Vs 134 – “(Believers are those who) who spend [in the cause of Allah ] during ease and hardship and WHO RESTRAIN ANGER AND PARDON THE PEOPLE - and Allah loves the doers of good.”

Guess this is to expected when Islam is made into a political tool.

Not sure of validity of the Alphard Guy story, but I cannot understand how a muslim in malaysia not feel insulted when another non muslim Malaysian ask you to berbuka puasa with a pig. Its either an insult or sheer stupidity.

Of course one can forgive. But isn't the problem lie with the Alvivi who never care or empathize with what others feel. Similarly with the Allah issue. We're in Malaysia and not indonesia. Our bahasa is not the same with Indonesian. Allah is a dear term to Muslims in Malaysia. So Vatican shouldn't intervene. When one insults or disrespect the other its perfectly acceptable to be upset. Though being forgiving is acceptable, but protecting dignity and name is also acceptable especially by making a stand.

Your article will again be used by left wing media like tmi to spin other Muslims not within your argued positions as bad Muslims. Tmi time and again initiated an issue to create a fissure between us.

I miss the days when we were guarded on how others feel. We compromise knowing we cannot get all. Singapore model of repressing public sensitives issues from blowing over and focus on common good seems very practical. We should go back to the former days just like in Singapore. We don't argue things for the sake of arguing. We don't argue things to hurt the other.

Assalamualaikum all,

1. There is a difference between the time of the initial call to Islam in Makkah and that of Madinah.

2. There is a difference between Abu Jahal and a bedouin.

3. There is a difference between a personal insult and an insult to Islam.

4. There are Badar, Uhud and others, just in case we have forgotten ... now that we are all wisely trained in the ways of moderation and inclusiveness, with love and affection for humanity ...

Thank you.

would like to read your feedback on Alvivi's "to jail, no bail"....i believe this couple do need to be corrected, but granting "no bail" is a bit too extreme from our court and just doesn't seem right on the grounds that if the couple were granted bail, they will be back to posting obscene matters on their FB.

BTW, recently ,i learned that "Bak Kut Teh" means "Meat Bone Tea". Can this be used as a point of argument by defense during the proceeding?

As a non-Muslim, I personally felt annoyed and offended when I first saw the picture, what more with the halal sign at the bottom of the picture. It's true that there's always the halal version - the chik kut teh (cooked with chicken meat), but the insinuation thereof is still what I consider to be very tactless, insensitive and simply moronic.

True, there's possibly an alternative to handling this case, one that could also perhaps teach these two ignorant ones (and perhaps others) of the purpose of Ramadan. I have fasted before alongside my Muslim friends, and my experience has definitely made me realize the strength it takes to do so and made me see clearer why Muslims puasa.

Nevertheless, it saddens me how we've stopped so low that race and religion as tools to reap selfish benefits or to create animosity. If we could only learn from each other, wouldn't that be wonderful? As non-Muslims, while we may not be required by our respective religions to fast, I think it would do us good to understand why Muslims do so. Ramadan to the Muslims is a holy month; fasting isn't for the sake of amusement but there is a meaning behind it.

As someone of the younger generation, I certainly keep my fingers crossed for the day when we no longer argue over issues as such, but rather put our hands and heads together for a better tomorrow. I may sound idealistic, but that's my hope.

the paradox of faith: you're so sure of your faith that you want to impose it upon others yet you're so unsure of your faith that whatever others do is deemed to be a threat to your faith

Interesting statement. But you're assuming the epistemology of every religion is the same. Certainty of belief need not have any nexus with imposition of belief. For sharing of values and morality have always been about setting norms in society. Thus ones's belief in man women marriage does not mean one has a weak faith if one stands against same sex marriage.

During the 70s, i went to La salle school, those days, we able to mix with all races, no issue going to drink tea in cina coffeeshop, no issue visiting indian or other races house. Now, ppl are getting more intolerant. Some getting upset/insulted if non-muslim eats in-front of muslims during Ramadhan. How come some of us is getting so sensitive?Today, Religiosity has increased compared to 70s but tolerant level has decreased.

Talking abt fasting. This is for knowledge.

In Buddhism, monks are advised to fast after noon.(Food intake disallowed but liquid is allowed).

In christianity, Christians also fast during the period of Lent.

Great Britain is in the throes of a rape and pedophilia epidemic ...Many of the sex crimes are being perpetrated by Muslim child grooming gangs responsible for drugging, raping and torturing hundreds and possibly thousands of British girls.

In Blackburn on July 9, Talib Hussain, 62, was charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, a passenger in his taxi. In Blackpool on July 8, Turkish-born Fatih Top, 38, was charged with raping an 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in his cab.

In Shrewsbury on July 6, Ahmet Baser, 34, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for raping an underage girl in his taxi. The victim and her friend were picked up by Baser's taxi outside a downtown night spot. After dropping off her friend, Baser went on to drive his victim into the remote countryside, where he raped her before taking her home.

In Berkshire on May 21, Arshad Arif, 28, appeared at the Reading Crown Court on charges of driving a 17-year-old passenger in his cab to a remote park some 25 miles from her home and raping her twice. Arif was identified after it emerged he had earlier allowed the schoolgirl to use his phone, with her father noting down the number.

In Oldham on May 16, Tamur Yaqub, 32, was sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl in the back of his car. T

Iranian woman 'too sexy' for council career

IRAN'S women have been promised sweeping improvements to their civil rights under the country's new President, Hassan Rowhani, but change has not come soon enough for one city councillor, who has been barred from office for being too sexy.

Nina Siakhali Moradi, 27, has found her political career cut short after religious conservatives overturned her election to the city council in Qazvin, the ancient capital of the Persian empire, north-west of Tehran.

The AUTA-rities are just being bullies by exercising their power especially when people who reason, insult them for failing to do so.

There is a great difference between "Hina Islam" and "Hina Muslims". If any one were to decipher the Quran, they will notice one simple thing. Allah is compassionate and forgiving. It's no wonder people desert the Quran:
25:30 The messenger said, "My Lord, my
people have deserted this Quran."*

....Because in the Quran, God is not like the paganistic god..He's just toooooo.....forgiving. How lar to make money and to show off power like that? No punishment no fun lor...
